15 Rocks: A Hands-On Boulder Workshop for Those Who Build Landscapes
LOCATION: Milan, MI. October 24 & 25
OCTOBER 24 & 25
Using 15 rocks ranging from 500 to 2,000 pounds, we will create and recreate:
- Two or more forms of retaining walls
- Water features (rock placement only)
- Large bed areas with boulder accents
- Japanese boulder arrangements
You will learn how to:
- Strap rocks and place them safely
- “See” the forms of rocks and how they relate to each other
- “See” the spaces between rocks
- Emulate the natural dynamic of rocks in water, both in falls and streams
- Create boulder arrangements as focal points and where to place them
Hotel info – A block of rooms has been reserved at the Baymont by Wyndham Milan (1230 Dexter St., Milan, MI 48160) at the rate of $80.00 per night plus tax. They are held under “MNLA GROUP” – you will need to call (734) 439-1400 to reserve and receive the group discount. Rooms are 2 queen size beds and will be held until October 21.

Lunch & Light Breakfast are included each day.

About the speaker - John DeVore: Formerly in the Greater Cincinnati area, John’s firm, DeVore’s Land and Water, is currently located in Citrus County, Florida. For more than 40 years, his specialty has been in the creation of functionally artistic gardens. As a landscape and garden designer, he strives to bring the healing and restorative power of nature to an accessible level for a homeowner or business, regardless of location or size. As an educator and public speaker, John has trained professionals as well as garden enthusiasts nationally and internationally in design, stone construction and aesthetics, hardscape, water features, Japanese garden principles and horticultural practices.
About the speaker – Fred Knight joined KC Runciman in 2010. He has a strong background as a horticulturist and a licensed builder, coupled with his passion for gardening and strong attention to detail.
