Experience the Garden Capital of America as the 2017 MNLA Landscape Design Tour heads to Pennsylvania!

This year’s Landscape Design Tour will be heading to Philadelphia and will include guided tours of some of the most impressive and influential gardens in the country.  As part of the excursion we will stroll through the romantic English-style landscape of Winterthur Mansion, explore the French formal Gardens of Nemours Mansion, immerse ourselves in the native plants of the Piedmont at Mt. Cuba Center, revel in the creative combinations of tropical and hardy plants at the nation’s premier pleasure garden at Chanticleer, and spend an entire day at Longwood Gardens to enjoy their fountains, 4.5-acre conservatory, and 86-acre Meadow Garden.

Additional notes: Pricing includes transportation from the hotel to the various tour stops each day, entrance fees into the gardens, guided tours, and some meals.  This does NOT include travel to and from Philadelphia, or hotel reservations.  August 12th will be a full day of touring.  You will need to make travel arrangements for August 11th, returning August 15th.  For more details, please contact Emily Huening at: emily@mnla.org or at (517) 381-0437.

Tentative Schedule (Subject to change):

Saturday, August 12: We will spend a full day at Longwood Gardens, which encompasses 1,077 acres featuring 20 indoor gardens, 20 outdoor gardens, meadows, and woodlands showcasing more than 11,000 types of plants.  Following a two-year revitalization, Longwood reopens their Main Fountain Garden this summer, which encompasses 5 acres and features more than 1,700 fountain jets and streams.

Sunday, August 13:   Our stops for the day will include tours of the formal gardens at both Wintherthur and Nemour’s Mansions, in both the English and French styles, respectively.  We’ll then take a break from the formality with a visit to Mt. Cuba Center to tour their extensive native plant collections.

Monday, August 14: Morning activities TBA: likely to include tours of private estates in the area
We will spend the afternoon at Chanticleer gardens, which will be open to our members only, allowing us to stroll self-guided through the property.  Chanticleer’s entire horticulture team will be gardening out on the grounds and eager to speak to us as we move through the garden. Following our tour, Chanticleer will host a reception (including wine, beer, and light food) for MNLA tour attendees and their gardening staff.
