Experience the Garden Capital of America as the 2017 MNLA Landscape Design Tour heads to Pennsylvania!

This year’s Landscape Design Tour will be heading to Philadelphia and will include guided tours of some of the most impressive and influential gardens in the country.  As part of the excursion we will stroll through the romantic English-style landscape of Winterthur Mansion, immerse ourselves in the native plants of the Piedmont at Mt. Cuba Center, revel in the creative combinations of tropical and hardy plants at the nation’s premier pleasure garden at Chanticleer, and spend an afternoon at Longwood Gardens to enjoy their fountains, 4.5-acre conservatory, and 86-acre Meadow Garden.
Additional notes: Pricing includes transportation from the hotel to the various tour stops each day, entrance fees into the gardens, guided tours, and some meals.  This does NOT include travel to and from Philadelphia, or hotel reservations.  August 12th will be a full day of touring.  You will need to make travel arrangements for August 11th, returning August 15th.  For more details, please contact Emily Huening at: emily@mnla.org or at (517) 381-0437.

Tentative Schedule (Subject to change):
Saturday, August 12:  The tour will begin with visits to several private residences in the Kennett Square, PA area.  The landscape designers will lead us through their respective properties, highlighting plant and hardscape materials used, while discussing their techniques and philosophies of landscape design.  We will then head to the renowned Longwood Gardens for lunch and a brief orientation, followed by a personalized tour of the newly revitalized Main Fountain Garden and Grotto Garden.  After the tour, you are invited to explore all 1,077 acres of both indoor and outdoor displays, and will be provided with a gift card to use for dinner at one of Longwood's multiple dining venues.  The group will reconvene at the bus at 7:00 p.m., and depart for the hotel.

Sunday, August 13:   Following breakfast at the hotel, the bus will pick us up at 9:30 a.m. and take us to our first stop at Mt. Cuba Center.  Once there, we’ll immerse ourselves in the native plants of the Piedmont and enjoy a picnic lunch on the grounds.  Next, we’ll hop on the bus for a short ride to Winterthur, where their Director of Horticulture and Curator of Plants will lead us around the estate’s surrounding 60-acre garden.  We’ll end the day at an extraordinary garden center, where you are sure to be inspired by their artful displays and creative plant combinations.  Dinner will be provided at a nearby restaurant before returning to the hotel.

Monday, August 14:  The morning will begin at an incredible 200-acre private estate, where we’ll tour the greenhouses, gardens and orchard on the property.  We will spend the afternoon at Chanticleer Gardens, also known as America’s Premier Pleasure Garden, which will be open exclusively to our group, allowing us to stroll self-guided around the grounds.  Chanticleer’s entire horticulture team will be working and eager to speak to us as we move through the garden.

Following our tour, Chanticleer will host a private reception (including wine, beer, and light food) for tour attendees, giving us the opportunity to mingle with their horticulture staff.  Following the reception, we will return to the hotel by 7:15 p.m.
